And what about snowball fights? Nothing beats the thrill of hiding behind a pile of snow while strategically aiming at your opponent. It's an activity that gets your heart pumping and your laughter roaring – until someone gets a snowball smacked in the face, of course.

For the little ones (and some adults too), sledding is another classic. Find a good hill, bring your sled, and let gravity do the rest. Just be careful not to crash into your neighbor's hedge!

And then, of course, there are the infamous herringbone slopes that make us wonder why we volunteered for this “fun.”

While winter can be beautiful, there's no doubt that the cold can be challenging. Frozen pipes are perhaps one of the most annoying things there is. It often starts with the water suddenly stopping running, and before you know it, you're standing there with a hairdryer desperately trying to thaw the pipes.

And what about the car? Every morning starts with the same routine: out in the cold to scrape ice off the windows. It feels like a workout in itself! If you're lucky, the car starts without a problem. If not? Well, you might have to call your neighbor for help.

Winter's "to do" list

To make winter a little easier, there are some things that must always be in place:

Insulate the house: A well-insulated home is worth its weight in gold when the temperature drops.
Shoveling snow: Shoveling snow is both exercise and a necessity. Just remember to use the right technique so you don't end up with a sore back!
Make a hot drink: Nothing beats a cup of cocoa or tea after a day out in the cold.
